City’s flags are flying at half-staff for Newtown

Flags at Vancouver City Hall were lowered to half-staff Friday afternoon, said city spokeswoman Barbara Ayers.

Mayor Tim Leavitt ordered the flags to be lowered to honor the victims of Friday morning’s massacre at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.

President Barack Obama said Friday that all U.S. flags should be flown at half-staff through Tuesday.

Ayers said flags at other city-owned buildings would be lowered by today.
