Saginaw wins the Big A’s Gravesend Handicap

NEW YORK (AP) — Saginaw posted his 10th win of the season, beating Royal Currier by a length as the 1-2 favorite Saturday in the $71,250 Gravesend Handicap at Aqueduct.

Junior Alvarado was aboard for trainer David Jacobson as the 6-year-old gelding ran the six furlongs in 1:09.40 in his 13th start of 2012.

Saginaw paid $3.10 and $2.10. Royal Currier returned $2.90. Isn’t He Perfect was third with Frazil the trailer in the four-horse field.

There was no show wagering.

Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. had five wins on the card. He did not have a mount in the Gravesend.
