Hot-shooting Fairfield beats Drexel 69-58

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Derrick Needham scored in double figures for the seventh straight game and Fairfield used its best shooting performance of the season to beat Drexel 69-58 Sunday in a nonconference game.

Needham finished with 20, Desmond Wade 15 and Maurice Barrow and Colin Nickerson 12 apiece for Fairfield, winners of three straight games. Only two players shot under 50 percent for the Stags, who shot 58 percent (25 of 43).

Fairfield (7-5) led 28-24 at intermission but the teams exchanged leads eight times over the first 6 minutes of the second half. Wade hit a 3-pointer to help Fairfield take the lead for good, 39-38, then followed with a layup as the Stags outscored Drexel 17-4 over the next 7 minutes.

Damian Lee led Drexel (3-7) with 15 points but the Dragons shot just 38.1 percent (21 of 55) from the field, their second worst outing of the season.
