No. 25 West Virginia women top Youngstown St 90-57

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Taylor Palmer scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures for No. 25 West Virginia, which shot 64.4 percent in defeating Youngstown State 90-57 Sunday.

Ayana Dunning added 13 points and 13 rebounds, Christal Caldwell and Averee Fields scored 12 points each and Darius Faulk scored 10 for the Mountaineers (7-2), who made 38 of 59 shots in winning their fourth consecutive game.

Caldwell and Palmer each scored 10 of their points in the first half, when West Virginia took a 43-23 lead.

Brandi Brown, who came in averaging 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds for the Penguins (7-3), was held to 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting and four rebounds. The senior forward did become the third Youngstown State player to surpass 1,500 career points, getting to 1,509.

The Mountaineers, who never trailed, outrebounded Youngstown State 44-25 and outscored the Penguins 42-20 in the paint.
