South Alabama beats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 74-69

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Augustine Rubit posted his fifth double-double of the season and South Alabama snapped a two-game losing streak, beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 74-69 Sunday in a nonconference matchup.

Rubit finished with 23 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, Xavier Roberson had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and Viktor Juricek came off the bench to score 10 for the Jaguars (5-5), who shot 40 percent (6 of 15) from 3-point range.

South Alabama outrebounded the Islanders 45-29 on the strength of 17 offensive rebounds.

Texas A&M-CC (1-6) scored the first basket of the game but did not score again until Brandon Pye’s 3-pointer at the 12:42 mark. Rubit converted a three-point play on South Alabama’s next possession to put the Jaguars up 17-5.

South Alabama took a 37-26 lead into halftime and led by at least five throughout the second half.

Pye’s 17 points led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
