More snow possible in Clark County overnight

Another wintry storm could bring a second shot of snow to Clark County early today, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

At 9 p.m. Tuesday, light snow was falling in Yacolt but not sticking, said a firefighter at North Country EMS.

A statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the weather service indicated areas above 300 feet around Vancouver could see 1 to 3 inches of snow on the ground this morning. Higher-elevation areas in east and north Clark County would likely see more snow under that scenario. The system may also throw sleet into the mix, forecasters said, making for a potentially messy morning commute.

An earlier system brought snow to several spots in Clark County late Monday and early Tuesday.

Whatever snow and sleet ends up sticking on the ground likely won’t stick for long. Forecasters expect today’s high temperature to reach 45 degrees in Vancouver and precipitation should increase, pushing the snow level to about 2,500 feet, according to the weather service.

But snow will continue to pile up in the Cascade Range. Another foot or two is expected to fall today and continue into Thursday, according to the weather service. Snowy conditions are also expected in the Columbia River Gorge.

By Thursday, there will be no threat of snow in the low areas, said meteorologist Chris Collins.
