Providence pulls away from Colgate for 79-45 win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Bryce Cotton scored 21 points and Josh Fortune added 17 to lead Providence to a 79-45 win over Colgate on Tuesday night.

The Friars (8-2) shot well from 3-point range the entire game, led by Cotton, who went 5 for 11. Fortune hit 3 of 6 3-pointers.

LaDontae Henton added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Kadeem Batts pitched in 10 points.

Freshman Kris Dunn made his collegiate debut, setting the Providence record for most assists in a debut with 13. Transfer Sidiki Johnson also joined the injury-ridden Friars lineup, coming off the bench with four points.

The Providence victory was marked by runs. The Friars used a 17-2 spurt early in the first half to take a 26-16 lead, and came out of the locker room with a 27-4 run in the second.

Murphy Burnatowski and Damon Sherman-Newsome led the Raiders (3-8) with 11 points each.
