Vancouver firefighters doused a small bedroom fire Wednesday evening at 19419 N.E. 11th St. in Camas, just outside the Vancouver city limits.

Crews were dispatched at 5:09 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the house when they arrived, said Capt. Kevin Murray, spokesman for the Vancouver Fire Department. The two occupants were outside when they arrived.

The fire started in one of the bedrooms and was quickly put out. The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and determining damage. Murray said that while crews were working on the scene, the occupants went back inside the house, delaying the firefighters.

He urges families to determine an escape route, and, in the event of a fire, to leave the home and stay outside.
