Rebensburg takes World Cup giant slalom lead

ARE, Sweden (AP) — Defending World Cup champion Viktoria Rebensburg leads a women’s giant slalom event after the first run.

The German posted a time of 1 minute, 13.94 seconds, beating second-place Tina Maze by 1.12 seconds. Maze, from Slovenia, is bidding to win a fifth consecutive giant slalom this season.

Austrian Anna Fenninger is in third place, 0.03 further back.

Overall champion Lindsey Vonn is not competing, taking a mid-season break to fully recover from an intestinal illness.
