Sanders scores 24 as Liberty beats Milligan 81-63

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — John Caleb Sanders scored 24 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, as Liberty beat Milligan 81-63 Friday night.

Davon Marshall scored 13 points and Tavares Speaks came off the bench to add 13 for Liberty (2-10).

After scoring 15 points in the first half, Sanders made a layup to begin the second half and spark an 18-10 run, helping Liberty push a 38-27 halftime lead to 56-35 with 12:59 left to play.

Milligan (8-7), an NAIA program, got as close as 14 points in the second half, but was held to just 36.1 percent shooting (22 for 61) for the game as the Flames ran away with the victory.

Liberty outscored Milligan 12-0 on fast-break points.

Sanders grabbed seven boards and Tomasz Gielo finished with nine rebounds as the Flames outrebounded the Buffaloes 54-41.

Palaima Ignas led Milligan in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and seven boards.
