SALEM, Ore. -- A man sought for 17 years in a fatal traffic crash in Marion County has been returned to Oregon to face vehicular homicide charges after nearly a year in federal custody for entering the country illegally.
The Salem Statesman Journal reports that 38-year-old Jose Luis Sanchez was arrested by border patrol agents in Arizona in January.
The State Police say he was linked by fingerprints to a warrant for his arrest on the Oregon charges.
Troopers say that Aug. 7, 1995, he was a 21-year-old Prineville resident driving a speeding car on Highway 22 near Idanha in Marion County.
Troopers said the car missed a curve and hit trees, killing a passenger, 22-year-old Jesus Gonzalez-Sanchez, also of Prineville.
