Letter: Reinstate ban
Sunday, December 23, 2012
With a shooting in Clackamas and an even more violent shooting incident in Connecticut at the end of the same week, it is clear that we do not have control of gun violence in this nation. The assault weapons ban was allowed to expire during the Bush administration; it is time to reinstate it. This time, it must include every type of multiple-round automatic or semi-automatic weapon in existence.
A handgun for personal protection or a rifle for legal hunting is fine, but no one needs an assault weapon, period. If we do not address this now, if we turn our heads again and ignore it, the next such incident should not surprise us.
