Letter: Bring on the coal trains and the jobs

The Columbian
Published:

I say, bring on the coal trains. Bring the much-needed jobs to Washington. Jobs to support our economy and help these many unemployed struggling families. Coal trains are not as bad as many have written. I can say this because I grew up in the heart of coal country, in Gillette, Wyo. We lived close to a coal mine and would often feel the rumble from the blasts. I don’t have any ill things to say about the coal mine. I am very thankful for the jobs it provided. My health is great and I can’t complain.

Our town grew into a prospering city with these coal mines. Jobs are there and the economy is good. Unemployment is down — lower than what is here in Washington.

The dust from coal trains is minimal, and the coal producers are doing their best to transport it with minimal effect on the environment.
