Ridgefield girl, 7, makes headline with hair donation

Ridgefield -- When she was 5 years old, Gianna D'Emilio watched a TV show about a girl who was bald because of a rare genetic condition. "I just want hair," said the little girl on the show. D'Emilio responded by donating 10 inches of her long, brown locks to Locks of Love, a nonprofit that makes wigs for children. "She loves her hair," grandmother Nancy Stratton said in American Profile magazine, which recently ran the story. "Gianna's a girly girl." Maybe so, but the now 7-year-old student at La Center Elementary School is growing her hair out only to cut it again so she can "help some other kid," she said.
