Letter: Cut back on foreign assistance

The Columbian
Published: December 28, 2012, 4:00pm

We keep hearing about domestic cuts and cuts to Social Security and Medicare, programs mandated on the American people, which are bought and paid for by the hard working citizens of the USA, only to be given away freely to many newcomers to our country. Today we are hearing about suggested cuts to future Social Security cost-of-living increases; however, we hear nothing about cuts to foreign aid, which is the first thing we should be hearing.

It is time the American people demand that our elected representatives start with massive cuts to foreign aid and not items that will hurt our own citizens. Let’s take care of our own before we try to support the rest of the world.
