Engesser sparks Denver past Texas-Arlington 50-35

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nate Engesser was the spark Denver needed, scoring 14 points including four 3-pointers in only 12 minutes off the bench and the Pioneers went on to defeat Texas-Arlington 50-35 on Monday afternoon.

Denver (5-7, 1-1 WAC) led 21-17 at halftime but posted a 50 percent shooting clip in the second half, making 10 of 20 attempts to outscore the Mavericks 29-18 in the second half for the win.

The Pioneers hit 11 3-pointers in the game compared to Texas-Arlington (6-4, 1-1), which made only 13 total buckets all night and shot a dismal 27.7 percent. Denver forced the Mavericks to turn the ball over 18 times.

Brett Olson had nine points for Denver and Chris Udofia scored five points, grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists and four blocks.

Karol Gruszecki led Texas-Arlington with eight points and Kevin Butler had seven points and eight rebounds.
