NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Jamelle Hagins scored 14 points with 16 rebounds for his ninth double-double this season as Delaware defeated Rider 73-66 Monday in a nonconference game.

Josh Brinkley had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Hens (5-8), who outrebounded the Broncs 52-31. Devon Saddler and Jarvis Threatt added 12 points each, including some key points down the stretch.

After Rider (6-8) erased a 13-point Delaware lead to go ahead 61-60 on Shawn Valentine’s 3-pointer with 6:14 remaining, Saddler put the Blue Hens on top to stay with two free throws. A three-point play by Threatt made it 65-61.

Two more baskets by Saddler increased Delaware’s lead to five points each time, the second making it 71-66 with 46 seconds remaining.

Daniel Stewart and Nurideen Lindsey scored 13 points each to pace Rider, which has lost four straight but had won its past four meetings with the Blue Hens.
