Letter: Sensible gun laws needed

The Columbian
Published: December 30, 2012, 4:00pm

Regarding the slaughter of the innocent children and adults in Sandy Hook Elementary School, I thought of these words: “A cry was heard in Ramah … Rachel weeps for her children … for they are dead.” Before we cool down, we need to contact Congress to ban assault weapons, tighten registering of all guns, and reverse NRA-influenced laws such as “Stand Your Ground,” guns in public places, guns in national parks, etc. The NRA has so many members, those serving in Congress are afraid they will be voted out of office if they pass strong anti-gun laws. I don’t think all members of the NRA would be against laws that would make guns inaccessible to deranged people. NRA members must also care about children’s safety.
