ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Stanwyck, a half-sister of 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo, won the $58,000 feature at Santa Anita on Monday.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez and making her debut on turf, Stanwyck ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.16 and paid $7.80, $4.40 and $3.60 as the 5-2 favorite in the field of 11 fillies and mares.
Named for the late Oscar-nominated actress Barbara Stanwyck, the 2-year-old filly earned $34,800 to increase her career winnings to $95,560, with two wins in six starts.
Candy Trophy returned $5 and $4.20, while Warren’s Got Game was another 112 lengths back in third and paid $4 to show.
