Akron beats Toledo for sixth time in a row, 86-72

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Quincy Diggs led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points and Akron beat Toledo for the sixth straight time 86-72 on Wednesday night.

Zeke Marshall and Alex Abreu added 14 points apiece, Chauncey Gilliam had 11 and Nikola Cvetinovic had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Zips (15-7, 7-1 Mid-American Conference). Akron, which leads the MAC East division, has won four games in a row and eight of its past nine. The win ties the program record for best conference start, last matched in the 2006-07 season.

The Zips had their best shooting night of the season, making 60 percent (30 of 50) of their field goal attempts, including hitting 8 of 19 from 3-point range. Toledo shot 47.5 percent (28 of 59).

Rian Pearson scored a career-high 29 points and Julius Brown chipped in 12 for the Rockets (10-12, 2-6), who are 4-11 since starting the season 6-1.
