Battle Ground: As much as Brandon Aalberg enjoyed the controlled burning of 70-year-old Central School on Jan. 21, he enjoyed even more the many stares his gas mask earned. "I like being myself, even if it's weird," he said.

Battle Ground -- Brandon Aalberg, a junior at Battle Ground High School, looked ready to roll in the face of any airborne toxins or other nasty stuff that might have been released during the controlled burning of the old Central School on Jan. 21.

But in actuality, he just wanted to turn some heads when he turned up wearing a World War II-era Russian gas mask. His favorite teacher said it was hilarious, and photographers kept snapping his picture. “I like being myself, even if it’s weird,” he said.
