YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The Yakima County coroner says the man shot and killed by a Yakima police officer in December had methamphetamine in his system.

Coroner Jack Hawkins says it could have altered his judgment. He also had taken cough medicine.

Stuart Eugene Morgan was killed Dec. 21 by an officer responding to a noise complaint at a downtown apartment. Police say he refused commands to put down a knife.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://is.gd/cML7uN ) a police investigation found the shooting was justified.

Morgan had a history of drug arrests and was convicted of manslaughter in the 1994 drug overdose death of his wife.
