Man shot in November by Tacoma police dies

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A man shot by Tacoma police during a traffic stop in November died Tuesday after he was taken off life support at a hospital.

KOMO reports (http://is.gd/VHvohv ) the death of 18-year-old Austin Welling was confirmed by the Pierce County medical examiner’s office.

Police say Welling had been pulled over for driving a stolen car Nov. 27 and when the officer got out of his patrol car Welling put his car into reverse and attempted to run over the officer.

Police spokesman Mark Best says the officer fired several shots, hitting the driver.

The officer was not hurt.
