School tours offered at Discovery, Washington

Vancouver Public Schools Superintendent Steve Webb will lead a patron tour of Discovery Middle School and Washington Elementary School on Feb. 10.

Discovery and Washington are two of the district’s Opportunity Zone schools. Family-Resource Centers in these schools have helped increase parent involvement and raised test scores.

The tour of Discovery will showcase the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, the Advancement Via Individual Determination program and middle school challenge/honors classrooms. At Washington, historical photos, letters and other memorabilia will be on display as part of the school’s centennial celebration.

The tour is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

An optional luncheon prepared by students in the district’s culinary arts program will be provided for $4, and patrons can watch a student musical performance.

The tour is open to the public. To register, call Susan Knable at 313-4720 or email susan.knable@vansd.org.
