SEATTLE (AP) — The two girls climbed on the scale and their total poundage was breathtaking — but nobody was upset. In fact, one Washington state woman who came within a pound of correctly guessing the combined weight of Woodland Park Zoo’s hippos was delighted.

The Seattle zoo says 42-year-old Alane Michels (Michaels) of Sprague guessed 6,280 pounds.

Guadalupe and Water Lily totaled 6,279 pounds in Wednesday’s weigh-in.

Two people were eligible to win based on the accuracy of their guesses in an online contest. Michels won by random draw.

The winner gets to meet the hippos behind the scenes. She also gets zoo passes and a 4-gallon bucket of Zoo Doo fertilizer.

The zoo says more than 2,800 entries were submitted statewide in the contest designed to focus attention on hippos.
