Gifford Pinchot National Forest — The Gifford Pinchot National Forest this week closed Forest Road 25 as crews prepare to replace a bridge near the forest’s north end. The road is expected to reopen by the July 4 holiday when a new span crossing Benham Creek is complete.

The original Benham Creek Bridge was destroyed after flooding caused a large landslide in January 2009. Crews installed the temporary bridge over the creek in its place to keep Forest Road 25 open. The new permanent bridge will use abutments designed to withstand a landslide, according to the forest service.

Oakland, Ore.-based CP Construction began mobilizing equipment for the bridge replacement last week. The project’s planned completion date is July 2.
