College Notebook: Dixson honored by CCC

Concordia University sophomore Gabi Dixson has been named Cascade Collegiate Conference athlete of the week for women’s indoor field.

Dixson, who competed for Battle Ground High School, posted quality marks in the both the shot put (44 feet, 1 inches) and the weight throw (55-5) over the weekend at the University of Washington Indoor Invitational in Seattle.

Throwing primarily against NCAA Division I athletes, she turned in the NAIA’s No. 4 mark in the weight throw this season.

Dixson also nearly matched her season best in the shot, which ranks No. 7 in the NAIA.

Williams posts 10th best UW pentathlon

University of Washington pentathlon Shelby Williams cracked the Huskies’ all-time Top 10 list with a score of 3,391 points at the UW Indoor Invitational in Seattle last weekend.

That is the 10th-best mark in school history. Grace Vela holds the UW record, with 3,915 points set in 2005.

The Ridgefield High School graduate set collegiate personal bests in the hurdles, long jump and high jump portions of the pentathlon.
