BATTLE GROUND — A group of parents and community members from the Battle Ground area is hoping to start a local group to help battle teen suicide.

The group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Starting Grounds Church, 203 S. Parkway Ave., to discuss future plans.

Speakers Mary Judwisiak, a mental health advocate; Kris Hendriksen of Teen Talk; and Aaron Chidester, executive director of the local nonprofit organization Unite 4 Life, will speak about how to recognize signs of depression and suicidal thinking, and what to do about it.

The group is looking for people who are willing to put time and effort into the project, said organizer Shawnee Speratos.

She’s hoping the group will have year-round programming, teen outreach and school assemblies to help raise awareness.

Anyone interested in helping should call Seperatos at 360-213-7783.
