SIUE snaps 6-game skid, beats Morehead State 61-53

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Mark Yelovich scored 20 points and Corey Wickware had 19 as SIU Edwardsville defeated Morehead State 61-53 Thursday night to snap a six-game losing streak.

Yelovich hit 10 of his 11 shots, helping the Cougars (6-14, 4-7 Ohio Valley) shoot 54 percent from the floor. Kris Davis added 12 points for SIUE.

Morehead State (12-12, 5-5), which had won three straight, got 16 points from Milton Chavis and 10 from Drew Kelly.

SIUE used a 12-1 run early in the game to go on top 17-10. The Cougars were ahead 24-19 at halftime and extended the lead to as many as 13 points when Wickware hit a 3-pointer with 10:34 remaining.

The Eagles battled back, scoring eight straight points to pull within 49-46 with 3:22 remaining. They were still within 53-50 when Davis buried a 3-pointer with 1:06 left to secure the win for SIUE.
