Florida Gulf Coast defeats Jacksonville 65-55

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Bernard Thompson scored 19 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast in a 65-55 win over in-state rival Jacksonville on Saturday.

Christophe Varidel added 12 points and Sherwood Brown 10 for the Eagles (12-11, 7-5 Atlantic Sun Conference), who have swept the regular-season series with the Dolphins. FGC also won on Jan. 9.

The Eagles led nearly the entire way, taking a 37-29 advantage at intermission and leading by 15 points at one juncture early in the second half. They outscored the Dolphins 28-26 in the final frame to seal the win.

Jacksonville won the battle of the boards 39-38, but was outscored 26-18 in the paint by FGC. The Eagles also scored 22 points off 21 Dolphins turnovers.

Aloys Cabell led the Dolphins (4-19, 2-10) with 13 points as their only player in double figures. They have lost four straight.
