UNC Asheville beats Liberty 65-51

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Jaron Lane scored 15 points and Jeremy Atkinson tallied a double-double, leading UNC Asheville over Liberty 65-51 on Saturday night.

Matt Dickey added 13 points, J.P. Primm had 12 and Atkinson scored 10 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (18-7, 13-1 Big South Conference). Quinard Jackson and Chris Stephenson pulled down 11 rebounds apiece.

The first-place Bulldogs have now won five straight games and 12 of 13.

UNC Asheville exploded in the second half after being knotted at 22-all at halftime, outscoring Liberty 43-29. The Bulldogs used a 13-0 run during a five-minute span in the second half to pull away.

Neither team had a great shooting performance, but UNC Asheville was 27 of 65 (41.5 percent) compared to Liberty’s 19 of 54 (35.2 percent).

John Caleb Sanders also finished with 15 points to lead the Flames (9-16, 4-9), who had won back-to-back games coming in.
