This one comes from the “Let’s do everything we can to invite bad karma” file:

The New York Giants’ Web site on Saturday briefly posted a splash page declaring “The Giants are Super Bowl Champions!” and offering the sale of merchandise celebrating the fact that “The Giants are Super Bowl Champions!”

If we weren’t sports fans, we wouldn’t believe in jinxes. But we are, and we do. So it now appears inevitable that a bunch of children in some Third World country will soon be wearing shirts, hats, and hoodies that say, “The Giants are Super Bowl Champions!”

One of the quirky aspects of the Super Bowl is the number of prop bets that you can make on the game. This such as:

“What will be the result of the first coaches challenge?”

“Total yards on the first rushing attempt by BenJarvus Green-Ellis?”

And the standard, “Who will win the coin toss?”

All of these are available for you to wager real cash money on. You know, if gambling were legal.

Congratulations to Cortez Kennedy, who joins Steve Largent as the second Hall of Famer to be elected based on what he did with the Seattle Seahawks.

As an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and the 1992 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Kennedy’s credentials are worthy of the Hall. And while Seattle has only two Hall of Famers in its 36-year history, Largent and Kennedy are certain to be joined by Walter Jones in the near future.
