A 3-point barrage from the Trappers in the third quarter shot down the Papermakers in this Class 3A Greater St. Helens League elimination game.

The Trappers made seven 3-pointers — on nine attempts — during the decisive third quarter of the game at Fort Vancouver. Mario Eyler led the charge, making four 3-pointers and scoring 14 points in the period as Fort outscored Camas 31-13.

That outburst pushed Fort’s lead to 30 points, and assured the host Trappers (9-12) of a spot in the bi-district tournament. Fort — which is hosting the 3A GSHL district tournament — will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Prairie, the third-place team from the regular season.

Camas finished the season 7-14.

Eyler’s 21 points led all scorers, but the Trappers had a balanced effort with 10 players contributing points. Coach Scott Thompson said K-Last Karue’s effort helped spark his Trappers.

“He just had a great all-around game,” Thompson said of Karue’s night, which included eight points, five assists, three steals and eight rebounds. “He just put as much effort into a basketball game as anyone I’ve ever coached.”

Camas coach Skyler Gillispie said that Fort Vancouver’s speed took over in the third quarter.

“I’ll hand it to them. They had a lot of energy in that third quarter,” Gillispie said, describing the Trappers’ shooting as “unreal.”

Kyle Friend’s 10 points topped the scoring for the Papermakers.
