RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says one irate driver apparently whacked another in the shoulder with a small sledge hammer in a road rage dispute in the Renton area.

Trooper Julie Startup says troopers responded early Tuesday morning to a report of a two-car collision on southbound State Route 167 near Interstate 405. They found a 33-year-old Renton man rubbing his left shoulder. The Nissan 300ZX driver said he’d been hit in the shoulder by the driver of a minivan.

Startup says the drivers described a lane change and some aggressive driving that ended with contact between the two vehicles.

Brett Carter of Bothell was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault. The unidentified Nissan driver was cited for negligent driving.
