ATLANTA (AP) — Eric Buckner tallied a double-double and knocked down a free throw with 23 seconds left for Georgia State’s final margin in a 61-59 win over Northeastern on Wednesday night.

Buckner, who finished with team highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds, went 1 of 2 from the charity stripe for the game’s final score. After Jihad Ali missed both his foul shots with 6 seconds left to try to extend the Panthers’ lead, Joel Smith missed a jumper at the buzzer for the Huskies in an attempt to tie it.

Georgia State (17-8, 9-5 Colonial Athletic Association) overcame an eight-point second-half deficit in the win.

With 17 wins on the season, the Panthers have equaled the fourth-highest win total in school history. Georgia State’s nine conference victories are its most since joining the CAA in 2005-06.

Smith led Northeastern (11-13, 7-7) with 16 points.
