Gibson's 30 help Sacred Heart edge Bryant 79-77

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- Shane Gibson scored 30 points, including two free throws that produced a five-point lead with 4 seconds left, as Sacred Heart held on for a 79-77 victory over Bryant in a Northeast Conference game Wednesday night.

Frankie Dobbs' 3-pointer just before time expired gave Bryant its final points.

The Pioneers (12-14, 6-7) led 39-26 at the half, but the Bulldogs (2-23, 1-12), who lost their 10th straight, pushed them hard in the second half, getting within a point, 59-58, on Erick Smith's 3-pointer with 5:56 remaining.

Dunks by Justin Swidowski and Stan Dulaire restored the lead to five for Sacred Heart, but Bryant cut it to two points twice in the final minute.

Gibson, a junior guard, became Sacred Heart's all-time single-season scoring leader with 564 points, surpassing Maurice Bailey's 542 in the 2003-04 season.

Raphael Jordan finished with 18 points, Dobbs 17 and Alex Francis 16 for Bryant.
