LONDON (AP) — Britain’s Paralympics association is celebrating the 200 days to go milestone before the Paralympic games in London by giving tickets to the event to every retired British Paralympics athlete.
The association announced Friday that any athlete who took part will be eligible for two tickets for the Aug. 29-Sept. 9 event. Some 1,000 former athletes are believed to be eligible but the exact number is not known.
Among the athletes honored will be Margaret Maughan, who won a gold medal in archery in 1960. The 83-year-old says the tickets offer recognition for the success of retired athletes.
The Paralympics began in 1948 when injured veterans held the first disabled sports competition in archery.
