BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Trevis Simpson scored 25 points and UNC Greensboro held on for a 71-69 win over Samford despite not scoring for the final 1 12 minutes on Thursday night.

After Nick Paulos dropped in a layup to put the Spartans (10-15, 8-5 Southern Conference) up 71-68, they couldn’t find the basket again. Lucky for them, Samford was having the same troubles.

Samford’s Drew Windler hit 1 of 2 foul shots with 1:12 left for the game’s final margin, and UNC Greensboro’s defense shut the Bulldogs down the rest of the way to clinch it. The Spartans committed a turnover in the final minute, but they also forced Samford into two missed 3-point attempts in the final 35 seconds.

The teams were tied at 41-all at intermission, but UNC Greensboro outscored Samford 30-28 in the second half.

Windler led the Bulldogs (9-15, 6-7) with 18 points.
