Utah Valley defeats NJIT 99-97 in overtime

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Ben Aird had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Geddes Robinson scored 17 points and grabbed five offensive boards to help Utah Valley beat New Jersey Institute of Technology 99-97 in overtime Thursday night.

The Wolverines (16-10, 6-0 Great West Conference) took a 92-90 lead early in overtime, before Chris Flores’ layup tied it with 4:21 remaining.

Utah Valley then scored four straight to go up 96-92 on Isiah Williams’ layup with 3:05 left. The Highlanders cut it to one, 98-97, on Lamar Kearse’s 3-pointer.

Aird then missed a jumper for the Wolverines, but Robinson came down with the ball and hit a free throw to seal it with 5 seconds to go.

Utah Valley scored five of its 11 second-chance points in overtime.

Isiah Williams finished with 24 points for Utah Valley, which won its ninth straight.

Flores scored 22 points and Ohri Arjun 14 for NJIT (10-13, 3-3).
