Athlete of the week: Wylicia Faley

Wylicia Faley, Battle Ground girls bowling

Battle Ground sophomore has been voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for Jan. 30-Feb. 4 based on a vote of fans on Facebook.

Faley collected 42.7 percent of the 483 votes cast this week to beat out Columbia River gymnast Jennifer DeBellis. DeBellis collected 33.3 percent of the vote.

Faley became the third Clark County bowler to win the 4A state bowling championship, bowling a six-game series (206 average) with games of 227-188-213-172-212-224 and helping Battle Ground capture its first state team title.

Other candidates were Heritage bowler Amanda Van Meter, Union boys basketball player Tanner Nelson and Evergreen wrestler Ramon Ortiz.
