MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A southern Oregon teen accused of setting fire to a cat has been arrested for investigation of aggravated animal abuse.

Jackson County sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said Friday the 17-year-old boy from Shady Cove was taken to juvenile detention in Medford.

Carlson says the investigation continues and other arrests are likely.

An Eagle Point couple who had been feeding a stray cat last December examined the cat when it returned to their house on Dec. 22 and found it had severe burns on its body.

The cat was treated for its injuries and is currently in good condition at Sanctuary One.

A $5,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
