Barnett leads Charlotte past Rhode Island 73-66

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Javarris Barnett scored of 16 of his 18 points in the first half and three of his teammates scored in double figures to lead Charlotte to a 73-66 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

The 49ers (12-11, 4-6 Atlantic 10) took control early in the game with a 21-2 spurt and led by as many as 19 points in the first half and claimed a 40-25 halftime advantage. Rhode Island (5-21, 2-9) used a 10-0 spurt to open the second half, cutting Charlotte’s margin to five points, but the 49ers went on another run and led by as many as 18 later in the second half.

Pierria Henry scored 14 points and Jamar Briscoe had 13 for Charlotte. DeMario Mayfield finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Billy Baron scored 24 points for Rhode Island, and Orion Outerbridge had 14 points and eight rebounds.
