Belmont defeats Florida Gulf Coast 86-63

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Ian Clark scored 17 points, dished out six assists and led six players in double figures as Belmont beat Florida Gulf Coast 86-63 Saturday.

All five starters scored more than 10 for the Bruins, with Drew Hanlen adding 14 points, Kerron Johnson 12 and Mick Hedgepeth and Blake Jenkins 11 each. Scott Saunders came off the bench to score 13 for Belmont (19-7, 11-2 Atlantic Sun Conference)

The Bruins led 38-32 at halftime and opened the second half on a 16-6 run. Scott Saunders’ three-point play capped the spurt, in which the Bruins went 3 of 5 from 3, for a 54-38 advantage with 14:51remaining.

Belmont was 30 of 60 from the field in its sixth straight win.

Florida Gulf Coast (12-13, 7-7), which shot 37.9 percent from the field (22 of 58) and 28.6 percent from 3-point range (6 of 21), was led by Christophe Varidel’s 11 points.
