KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — A transport minister says a senior adviser to Congo’s president is among two killed after a private jet crashed while landing in Congo’s city of Bukavu.
Provincial Transport Minister Laban Kyalangalilwa said Sunday the private jet was carrying 10 passengers and 2 pilots. He said Augustin Katumba Mwanke, a close adviser to President Joseph Kabila, died in the crash. He said a pilot was also killed.
Kyalangalilwa said South Kivu Governor Marcellin Cishambo has been admitted to the hospital for emergency treatment, and most of the other passengers were taken from the plane alive.
The minister said he did not know the cause of the crash.
Congo has one of the worst air safety records in the world. The Central African country’s safety regulations are notoriously lax.
