Dayton defeats Fordham 72-70 in overtime

NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Johnson had a season-high 22 points and 13 rebounds as Dayton defeated Fordham 72-70 in overtime Saturday.

Johnson scored the Flyers’ first five points in overtime. Josh Parker, who scored all of his 14 points for Dayton in the second half, hit two free throws with 1:01 remaining in overtime to give the Flyers a 72-68 lead.

Fordham, which got two free throws from Bryan Smith with 53 seconds to go, missed its final five field goal attempts in overtime and had two shots blocked in that span.

Dayton (15-9, 5-5 Atlantic 10 Conference), which made 22 of 27 free throw attempts, snapped a four-game losing streak and beat the Rams for the sixth time in a row.

Chris Gaston scored 23 points, Devon McMillan added 16, Smith had 14 and Kervin Bristol had 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Rams (9-14, 2-8), who lost their third straight.
