Saint Joseph’s pulls away from Massachusetts 73-62

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carl Jones scored 17 points and Saint Joseph’s pulled away from Massachusetts in the second half for a 73-62 win Saturday night, splitting the season series.

Trailing 34-32 with 16:17 remaining, the Hawks (16-10, 6-5 Atlantic 10 Conference) rattled off 14 straight points.

After Saint Joseph’s extended the lead to 16 with 3:16 remaining, the Minutemen (18-7, 7-4) used a 9-0 run to pull within seven, but could get no closer.

Langston Galloway added 15 points, Ronald Roberts 14 and C.J. Aiken 13 for the Hawk, who have won three of four. Halil Kanacevic tied his career-high with 15 rebounds.

Saint Joseph’s, which ranked second in the league in field goal percentage defense and 21st nationally (39.3 percent), held the Minutemen to 33.8 percent shooting (24 of 71).

Jesse Morgan had 18 points and Chaz Williams added 11 points and 10 assists for UMass, which won 71-62 on Jan. 14.
