NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Scott Machado had the second triple-double in school history with 10 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds to help Iona defeat Marist 83-74 on Sunday night.
The nation’s assist leader (10 assists per game) became the first Gael to achieve the feat since Nakiea Miller did so against Fairfield on March 5, 2000.
Machado led Iona to 20 assists, as it shot 53.1 percent from the field (17 of 32).
Michael Glover added 25 points and 10 rebounds and Lamont Jones had 23 points for the Gaels (20-6, 12-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Association), who won for the fifth time in their last six games. Iona had won four straight before falling to Loyola (Md) 87-81 on Feb. 10.
The Gaels, who turned it over 10 times, scored 18 points off 16 Marist miscues.
The Red Foxes (9-16, 4-10) were led by Chavaughn Lewis and Devin Price with 20 points each.
