Man wounded in shootout with Astoria police

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — A man was wounded in a shootout with police at motel Sunday evening in Astoria.

The suspect fled and was stopped about eight miles away after a chase on Highway 26. He’s being treated for gunshot wounds at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.

An officer suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The Daily Astorian reports (http://is.gd/p7mvwF ) the man gave a Washougal address when he checked into the Lampligher Motel.

Police were called to the motel on a report of suspicious circumstances and say the man fired at them when they confronted him. Two officers returned fire at the man

Oregon State Police are investigating.
