Man wounded in shootout with Astoria police



ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) -- A man was wounded in a shootout with police at a motel Sunday in Astoria.

The suspect fled and was stopped about 25 miles away after a chase along the coast on U.S. 101 and then inland on Highway 26. He's being treated for gunshot wounds at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.

An officer suffered minor injuries.

The Daily Astorian reports ( ) the man gave a Washougal address when he checked into the Lamplighter Motel.

Police were called to the motel on a report of suspicious circumstances and say the man fired at them when they confronted him. Two officers returned fire.

Oregon State Police are investigating.
