Balanced Florida Gulf Coast beats Lipscomb 89-68

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 13 points and five other Florida Gulf Coast players scored in double figures as the Eagles defeated Lipscomb 89-68 Monday night.

Christophe Varidel added 12, all on 3-pointers in the second half, when the Eagles (13-13, 8-7) shot 60 percent (18 of 30) and pulled away after leading 39-27 at halftime.

The lead reached 21 points with 11:19 left, 61-40, after Brown made a layup and scored again 17 seconds later on a dunk after a steal by Dante Holmes.

Holmes scored 11 points for Florida Gulf Coast, which clinched a berth in the eight-team Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. Eddie Murray, Bernard Thompson and Filip Cvjeticanin added 10 points apiece, and Brett Comer had nine points and six assists.

Malcolm Smith scored 19 to lead the Bison (12-14, 7-7), who were 5 of 18 from 3-point range to Florida Gulf Coast’s 11 of 23.
