Coppin State edges Maryland-Eastern Shore 81-78

BALTIMORE (AP) — Michael Harper scored 26 points and his 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining lifted Coppin State over Maryland-Eastern Shore 81-78 on Monday night.

Harper scored 16 points in the second half for the Eagles (13-12, 8-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who led by 20 points, 46-26, with less than a minute gone in the half.

The Hawks (6-18, 3-8) turned to the 3-point shot, making 9 of 16 in the second half while shooting 53.8 percent (21 of 39) overall in the final 20 minutes. They also came up with 14 points on the Eagles’ nine second-half turnovers.

Tyler Hines’ offensive rebound and layup cut Maryland-Eastern Shore’s deficit to 78-76, and Olatunji Kosile’s layup tied it with 15 seconds left.

Antonio Williams had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Coppin State.

Hillary Haley, Louis Bell and Percy Woods all scored 17 for Maryland-Eastern Shore. Hines had 14 points and 17 rebounds.
